SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga University men’s rowing Varsity 8+ crew is ranked 19th in the latest USRowing Collegiate Coaches’ Top 20. The Zags, who were tied for 20th on April 1 in the first poll of the season, received 23 votes on Wednesday to tie their highest ranking in school history.
The Bulldogs earned their spot in the Top 20 after having a superb outing at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA’s) Championships. Gonzaga dominated both days of the WIRA, winning its heat race by six seconds and then taking gold in the Grand Final with a one second victory over UC San Diego.
University of California earned the top spot in this week’s poll, earning 10 of 17 first-place votes. Brown University received the remaining seven first-place votes to rank second. Stanford University, Harvard University and the University of Wisconsin rounded out the top five.
