BANDON, Ore. -- The Gonzaga men's golf team rose to sixth place on the team leaderboard after an eight-under (276) finish in the second round of the Bandon Dunes Championship Monday. The Zags had the second-lowest team total in Round 2, and are at one-under (567) entering the final day of the event. Gonzaga is hosting the ninth annual event on the Pacific Dunes Course at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.

"Great playing by all five players in the lineup today, posting the second best team score in the field," GU Head Coach Robert Gray said. "Four of the five were even-par or better."

The Bulldogs' Tyler Munetake climbed from 33rd to a tie for 18th, after carding a 69 (-2) in the second round. He was one-under on the front and back nine, with five birdies and 11 pars. The junior is one-under (141) following Round 2.

Playing as individual, Holden Backes is tied for 13th. After an opening round 67 (-4), he was two-over (73) Monday. The freshman has the lowest average on Par-3 holes at 2.40 (-3). He enters the final round at two-under (140).

Nick Nolan and Ben DuBois are both tied for 26th at one-over (143). Nolan had four birdies in his second round, while DuBois made 11 pars, two birdies and an eagle. Nolan was two-over in Round 2, and DuBois was even-par. DuBois leads the 84-golfer field with the lowest average on the course's Par-5 holes at 4.00 (-4).

David Ganz and Matthew Ruel vastly improved their place on the leaderboard in Round 2. Ganz was two-under (69) and Ruel carded a 67 (-4). Ganz finished the round with five birdies and eagled Hole 3. He is tied for 45th at four-over (146). Ruel is tied for 61st at seven-over (149). He had four birdies and an eagle on the second hole, along with 11 pars. The Ole Miss transfer was three-under on the back-nine.

Chris Mogg (+20, 83rd) and Charlie Magruder (+22, 84th) are both playing as individuals. Mogg was 12-over (83) Monday, while Magruder was six-over (77).

"Nick's round of +2 was well fought," Gray said. "The biggest turnaround today came from Matt who, after struggling yesterday posted our low round of the day with his 67. Holden had a great opening round yesterday, and got off to a tough start today, where he was +5 after six holes, but he showed a lot of fight getting it back to +2 for the day. While Charlie's total score may not show it, he played a very solid round today with the exception of one hole. He also showed a lot of fight today.

"Tomorrow looks to bring in some weather and mental fortitude will be extremely important," Gray said.

Arizona State's Chun An Yu is eight-under (133) and tops the leaderboard. He has a one-stroke lead over Utah's Kyler Dunkle. The No. 22 Sun Devils lead the team leaderboard by five strokes at 17-under (551). Utah is second at 12-under (556). Santa Clara had the lowest round of the day, with a 273 (-11) team total.
