MADERA, Calif. - Freshman Matt Munroe finished 10th to earn All-West Coast Conference honorable mention accolades and lead Gonzaga University's men's golf team to sixth in the WCC Championship that concluded Tuesday at Riverbend Golf Club.

Munroe, from Lakehead, Calif., shot a final-round 77 for a 54-hole total 225 in helping the Bulldogs to a final-round 313 and a tournament total 928 to edge the University of Portland by one stroke for sixth place. Pepperdine University captured the team title with an 893 for a 4-stroke victory over Saint Mary's College.

Munroe's finish was the highest by a Bulldog golfer since Craig Lawrence took 10th in 1992 for honorable mention honors. The sixth place team finish also matched Gonzaga's highest finish since the Bulldogs began participating in the WCC Championship in 1980. It was Gonzaga's highest finish since 1987, the last of four previous sixth-place finishes.

Pepperdine golfers finished 1-2, Michael Beard taking medalist honors with a 10-under par 206 for a 6-stroke win over teammate Jason Allred.
