DuBois Receives Silver Medal at Maccabiah Games

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Gonzaga men's golfer Ben DuBois earned a silver medal with Team USA at the 20th Maccabiah Games in Caesarea, Israel.
DuBois represented the United States at the international Jewish and Israeli multi-sport event now held quadrennially in Israel. It is the third-largest sporting event in the world, with 10,000 athletes competing. The athletes are competing on behalf of 85 countries, in 45 sports. The first Maccabiah Games were in 1932.
DuBois was in eighth place after four rounds on the 56-golfer leaderboard. He helped the United States to a second place finish at the Caesarea Golf Club.
David Ganz made a run to the Round of 16 at the 116th PNGA Men's Amateur Championship in Creswell, Ore. Ganz was tied for ninth after two rounds of 72 (E) in the two rounds of stroke play. Seeded 12th, Ganz won in the opening round of match play, 2 and 1. He then defeated Nicholaus Mandell, 1-up, in the Round of the 32. Ganz fell to Trevor Yu in the Round of 16, 1-up.
Nick Nolan and Holden Backes both advanced to match play. Nolan was seeded 16th, after also being tied for ninth following stroke play. He carded a 69 (-3) in the second round, after a 75 (+3) in Round 1. Backes was tied for 30th at four-over in stroke play. He was seeded 34th, following rounds of 77 (+5) and 71 (-1). Nolan and Backes both fell in the opening round of match play.
Ganz also finished the 108th Oregon Amateur Championship in the Round of 16. He was seeded 16th, after finishing stroke play at nine-over through two rounds in West Linn, Ore. Ganz took his opening round of match-play 1-up, before winning in the Round of 32, 4 and 3. He fell in the Round of 16, 3 and 2.
Former GU standout, Sean Walsh, just had his best finish in the Mackenzie Tour of PGA Canada. He tied for 21st at the Staal Foundation Open in Thunder Bay, Ont. Walsh finished with a 281 total after four rounds of 69, 73, 69, and 70. In his first season on the tour, he has a scoring average of 73, through five events.
