Zags Open Season Well At Mission Bay
March 11, 2018
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Gonzaga Bulldogs opened their spring season with some good results on Sunday afternoon at the Western Sprints Challenge on Mission Bay.
The Bulldogs competed in three duals against UC San Diego. The varsity eight took home the win with a time of 6:09.35, two seconds ahead of UC San Diego. The GU second varsity eight boat fell by four seconds at 6:17.98 and the third varsity eight was nine seconds back of the UCSD “A” boat but 28 seconds better than their “B” boat at 6:35.
“I am pleased with the racing today, especially with not having much water time prior,” Gonzaga head coach Dan Gehn said. “Water conditions were tough with a lot of boat wakes. The V8 did a great of not getting rattled and rowed well in the last 1000 meters.”
The Zags continue tomorrow battling San Diego and Santa Clara. Santa Clara swept USD in all three races on Sunday. The varsity eight opens the day at 7:10 am against USD.
