May 13, 2017
GOLD RIVER, Calif. – The Gonzaga Bulldogs closed out their season on Saturday as they competed in the Western Sprints on Lake Natoma outside of Sacramento.
The Zags finished fifth in the varsity eight race with a time of 6:26.6. The GU second varsity eight finished third with a time of 6:18.1, their second-fastest time of the year, 11 seconds faster than San Diego and 11 seconds back of runner-up UC San Diego. The Zags' third varsity eight took third with a time of 6:49.3, also their second-fast mark of the season. Santa Clara and UC San Diego both earned bids to the IRA Championships via first and second place finishes in the varsity eight race.
“All the boats raced hard, with the second varsity eight having the best finish,” Gonzaga head coach Dan Gehn said. “Hats off to our seniors this year. I know this isn’t how they wanted to finish their careers, but it’s a good group and they worked hard all year.”
GU, along with USD and Oklahoma City completed their seasons.
