Fall Schedule

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men’s rowing team has released their 2017 fall schedule. The schedule includes four regattas, highlighted once again by the Head of the Spokane on the Spokane River on October 14.

The Head of the Spokane home regatta kicks off the season for the Zags as they face Washington State. The first and second varsity eight both earned victories there last season. The Zags and Cougars will duel again on October 20 at Wawawai Landing on the Snake River in Pullman in the Head of the Snake. The GU varsity eight and second varsity eight both took home victories there last season as well.

The Zags’ varsity eight will then travel to Gold River, Calif. for the Head of the American on Lake Natoma on October 28, the site of their conference championship, the Western Sprints. GU’s top boat finished seventh in the Head of the American last year. GU wraps the fall season at the Head of the Lake on November 5 on Lake Union and the Montlake Cut in Seattle. The varsity eight took fourth last year, and the second varsity eight and third varsity eight were fifth.

“The team is hard at work laying the foundations for a successful year,” Gonzaga assistant coach Mark Voorhees said. “We have got a solid core group of returners with a freshmen recruiting class that is eager to prove themselves and win some races. Add in a very talented and athletic group of novice walk-ons, and I think we’ve got a squad that is going to be setting a great tone for the year ahead. We have some great racing opportunities in our fall schedule and we’re excited to see what kind of progress the team can make in the coming months.”

The Zags spring schedule will be released at a later date.
