HIGH SCHOOL Attended Archbishop T. Murphy High where he was a 4-year letterwinner, coached two years by Eddie Fernandez and two by Mike Bartley...Senior season ended in injury in the second match of the season to his ankle...As junior was a first-team All-State defender as selected by the Washington State Coaches Association and was a second-team All-Area defender as selected by the Everett Herald sports department, the only junior among the five defenders chosen from all classifications in the area...Second-team All-Cascade Conference...Named second-team All-Conference as a sophomore and earned a starting spot as a freshman...Archbishop Murphy won or shared the Cascade Conference title all four seasons and won four District 1 2A titles...ATM had four state appearances - although he didn't get to play his senior season -- and advanced to the semifinals and finished third once, went to the second round twice and lost in the first round once...Junior season the team went 14-0 in the Cascade Conference and was 20-0 overall prior to losing 4-3 in a shootout to Cheney High in the State 2A semifinals...ATM, which had allowed just two goals all season prior to the Cheney match, downed Tumwater 2-0 in the third place game to finish 21-1...Played for the Northwest Nationals Premiere Soccer Club from U11 through U18 with the exception of U15. His U11 and U13 teams lost in shootouts in the Washington State Cup semifinals and his U14 and U18 teams lost in double-overtime...U12, U16 and U17 teams were Washington State Cup quarterfinalists...Played U15 for the Evergreen Soccer Club, advancing to the Washington State Cup quarterfinals...Graduated with a 3.85 GPA and was Academic 1st Honors as the highest GPA and a member of National Honor Society...Father, Fred, played football for the University of Wyoming, quarterbacking the team in 1983-84 and also quarterbacked Spokane's Gonzaga Prep during its Washington State 4A title run in 1982...Among Fred's teammates on that '82 G-Prep squad was current Gonzaga University head baseball coach Mark Machtolf.
