SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Gonzaga University (2-2-0) overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit to hand the Columbia University Lions (0-2-0) a 2-1 setback Sunday in the Diadora Cup hosted by the University of San Diego.

The Zags scored both of their goals in a span of 41 seconds late in the second half for the come-from-behind victory. Senior forward Brian Ching took a cross off a free kick by Abbas Faridnia and headed it in past CU goalie Mike Ewers for the game-winner at 75:19, hist third goal of the season. Gonzaga had knotted the score at 74:38 when senior midfielder Jason Kuska took advantage of a misplay by Ewers in front of the net and converted for his third goal of the year.

Columbia, which dropped its second straight contest at the tourney, took a 1-0 halftime lead when sophomore midfielder Michael Ching scored in close after a CU shot caromed off Zag goalie Gunnar Magnusson's chest. Magnusson recorded 4 saves on the day, while CU's Ewers tallied 7 saves.

Gonzaga outshot the Lions 23-9 with a majority the shots coming in the final 45 minutes when they stepped up their offensive pressure and outshot Columbia 23-9. The contest was a very physical match with a total of 50 fouls being called, and Columbia getting called for four yellows and red card.
