LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Redshirt freshman Zach Smith came off the bench and scored his first two career goals Friday in leading Gonzaga University's men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over host UNLV in the nightcap of the UNLV Nike Invitational.

Smith, from Kalispell, Mont., led the Bulldogs (1-1-1) to their first win of the season as Gonzaga beat the Rebels (3-2-0) for the third straight time in taking a 5-1-1 lead in the series. UNLV lost its second straight after three wins to open the season.

Smith's first goal came at 35:09 as he blasted a shot from 20 yards to the far right post for the unassisted tally. His second came just 48 seconds into the second half when he took a right cross from Bryan Mullaney and headed the ball to the right post past UNLV keeper Hawk Mummey.

Scott Barnum, who got his first Gonzaga start last week in a 0-0 tie at Oregon State University, got the call again Friday and recorded three saves. He lost his bid for the shutout at 87:05 when Lamar Neagle headed the ball out of Barnum's hands and shot into the empty net for his first goal of the year.

The Rebels held a 14-10 edge in shots and a 7-6 advantage in shots-on-goal. Each team received two yellow cards, three of them coming in a 1:53 stretch within the first 10 minutes of the match when the Bulldogs were issued two and UNLV one.

Gonzaga and UC Riverside (1-4-0) will play for the tourney title Sunday at 10:30 a.m. UCR downed Oral Roberts University 3-1 in Friday's opening match. UNLV will face ORU (1-3-0) at 1 p.m. Sunday.
