Sept. 15, 2017
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Gonzaga offense was back in form on Friday night in a 4-1 win over CSU Bakersfield in Las Vegas as part of the Johann Memorial Classic at UNLV.
After the Road Runners led briefly after 21 minutes, Ben White scored his second goal of the year at 27:24 tying the match at one. The teams went to the half tied, but at 50:35 Matt Kintzle scored his first career goal for the Zags with the eventual game winner. Sam Olson scored on the header in the 57th minute on a combo play from White and Jalen Crisler, and Joe Corner scored the final GU goal at 61:51, his second of the year.
Ben Willis made three saves in goal for GU and earned the win. Each team fired 12 shots, with the Zags taking seven on frame compared to four for CSUB. White has now assisted or scored on seven of GU’s 11 goals this season. The Zags scored four goals in two of their first six games for the second-consecutive season.
“It was a total team effort tonight,” Gonzaga head coach Einar Thorarinsson said. “A lot of guys played a lot of minutes, and Ben White and Jalen Crisler were excellent. Joe Corner had a good game as well. The guys responded very well after going down one, and this was a total team win.”
The Zags (4-2) will remain in Las Vegas and face host UNLV at 1 pm on Sunday. Live links are available at GoZags.com.
