CORVALLIS, Ore. - Senior Abbas Faridnia's penalty kick 5:37 into the first overtime gave Gonzaga University a 1-0 victory over California State University-Sacramento Sunday at the Diadora Classic hosted by Oregon State University.

Faridnia's goal, his second of the season, gave the Bulldogs (3-2-0) a sweep of the weekend tournament following Friday's 3-2 win over San Diego State University. It was Gonzaga's first weekend sweep since October of 1999 when the Bulldogs defeated the University of San Diego 4-2 and Loyola Marymount University 3-2 in overtime at Martin Field. It was the first time Gonzaga has swept a weekend series away from home since the 1997 season when the Bulldogs topped Saint Mary's College 7-2 and the University of San Francisco 2-1 in overtime in a pair of West Coast Conference road tilts.

CSUS (1-3-1), a 3-2 loser to host Oregon State University on Friday, made a bid to upset the Bulldogs despite being outshot 18-11, including 10-5 in the first half. The defensive battle saw just 7 shots on goal as Gonzaga goalie Mike McCarthy was called on for a pair of saves and his CSUS counterpart Leo Martin had 4 saves. Gonzaga managed two shots in the OT, including the match winner, while CSUS did not get a shot on goal in the brief OT stanza.

The Bulldogs return to Corvallis next weekend to compete in the Oregon State Beaver Classic, facing Valparaiso University Friday and California State University-Northridge Sunday in a pair of 2 p.m. matches.
