GU Falls To Portland In Closely Fought Match

PORTLAND – The Gonzaga Bulldogs and Portland Pilots competed in a low scoring, low shot, defensive affair on Saturday night in Portland, with the Pilots coming out ahead 1-0.

The game-winner came in the 34th minute for Portland as Rey Ortiz scored on an assist from Spencer Myers and Erik Edwardson.

The game only featured 11 total shots between the teams, as the Zags best chances came in the 51st minute when Christo Michaelson’s header sailed wide and in the 55th minute when Joe Corner put a shot from the wing on goal.

Ben Willis made two saves in goal for GU.

Gonzaga (6-8-2, 0-5-1 WCC) will wrap their season next Saturday at 7 pm at Pacific.
