Christo Michaelson And Joe Corner Earn Postseason Honors

SPOKANE, Wash. – A couple Gonzaga men’s soccer players received some postseason accolades recently, as senior midfielder Christo Michaelson was voted a 2017 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's All-Far West Region Third Team recipient. Freshman midfielder Joe Corner was tabbed Top Drawer Soccer’s 96th ranked freshman nationally, following the end of the postseason.
Michaelson, started in all 16 games he played this season and was named All-West Coast Conference Second Team, and led the team in goals with four. He was named All-WCC Honorable Mention last season. He added an assist to his goal total this year and was second behind Ben White with nine points. Michaelson led the Zags with 21 shots and 10 shots on goal. Two of his goals were game-winners, the most on the team.
Corner made an immediate impact for the Zags this year being named to the WCC All-Freshman Team. He scored one goal with four assists, playing in all 17 games, starting 12 of them. He fired 17 shots and six on goal, both fourth on the team. He ranked second on the Zags in assists and his goal against American was the game-winner. He joined Davis Behnke who was selected to the All-Freshman team last year.
Last season, senior forward Jakob Granlund was selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Far West Region Third Team.
