Men’s Soccer Prepares For Upcoming Spring Season

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men’s soccer team begins the 2018 spring season with a match against the Sounders 2 at the Starfire Soccer Complex in Tukwila, Wash. on Feb. 24 at 1:30 pm. Men’s soccer fans will have a chance to see the team play at home this spring on April 7, with a double header at Luger field. The Zags will play against the Concordia Cavaliers at 12 p.m., then take on the Seattle Pacific Falcons in a bid to win the Northwest Cup at 7 p.m.
The winner of the match between the Zags and Falcons will then take on the winner of a match played between the Portland Pilots and the Oregon State Beavers. The losers of both matches will then play each other. Both matches will take place on April 14 in Portland.
One week later on April 21, the Zags will head back to Seattle to play two matches. The first one against the Saint Martin’s University Saints at 12:30 p.m. at Bellevue Community College and then at the University of Washington against the Huskies at 4 p.m.
The Sounders 2 are a reserve team for the Seattle Sounders FC and compete in the United Soccer League, which is in the second tier of the U.S. Soccer Pyramid.
Seattle Pacific competes at the NCAA Division II level, and in the fall, they went 11-5-1 on the season where they placed second in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
Concordia was once an NAIA power, until recently switching over to NCAA Division II. This past season they went 5-10-2.
Gonzaga has had history with in state rival UW, as they faced the Huskies in the fall season at Washington, falling 3-0. The Huskies finished the season with a 12-7-1 record.
Saint Martin’s also plays in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
The Zags will finish the spring season on April 28, against an opponent to be announced at a later date.
