OMAHA, Neb. - Gonzaga University men's soccer pulled off one of the biggest wins in program history when they upset No. 1 Creighton University on Sept. 26, 1999. The victory gave a the Bulldogs a 1-1 record at the Diadora Classic after they fell to No. 25 Southwest Missouri State University (3-2) in the opener.

Senior forward Brett Fink scored the lone goal of the match when he knocked the ball around the Creighton keeper at the top of the box and found the right side of the net at the 88:17 mark. Goalkeeper Trevor Yost was able to preserve the shutout as GU won 1-0 despite playing a man down for the final 40 minutes. It was the first non-penalty kick goal allowed by the Bluejays all season.

Two weeks later Gonzaga would get another chance at a No. 1 team but could not pull off the upset falling at then No. 1 Santa Clara University, 1-0. The 1999 season was marked as one of the toughest schedules in school history as Gonzaga faced eight opponents ranked in the Top 25 finishing with a 4-3-1 record. Along the way the Bulldogs picked off No. 4 University of San Diego, No. 5 University of Virginia and No. 7 Stanford University.
