Men's Soccer Gets Regional Ranking
Sept. 9, 2003 SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University's men's soccer team returned to the NSCAA/adidas Regional Rankings this week, checking in at No. 8 in the Far West poll. The ranking is the first for the Bulldogs (3-0-0) since the 2001 season when Gonzaga began a six-week appearance with a No. 8 ranking on Oct. 8, 2001. Gonzaga climbed to as high as No. 5 on Oct. 22 and ended the season at No. 8 in the final ranking on Nov. 19. Gonzaga went 9-5-2 that season and advanced to its inaugural NCAA College Cup with an at-large berth. UCLA (3-1-1) heads this week's Far West balloting. Santa Clara University (3-0-0) is second; UC Santa Barbara (2-0-1) and Stanford University (1-1-0) are tied for third, and Cal State Norhtridge (3-0-1) is fifth. The next five have the University of Washington (2-0-1) in sixth, the University of New Mexico (2-1-1) in seventh, Gonzaga in eighth, Cal State Fullerton (2-2-0) in ninth and Loyola Marymount University (2-2-0) in 10th.
Gonzaga returns to action Friday against host Oregon State University in the OSU Diadora Classic in Corvallis, Ore. The Bulldogs conclude tournament play Sunday against the University of Illinois-Chicago.
