Dec. 28, 2007

KANSAS CITY, Kans. - Gonzaga University senior forward George Josten has been named the 2007 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Men's Scholar Athlete of the Year and leads a group of 47 athletes named to the 2007 NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-America Team.

The inaugural NSCAA/adidas All-America in school history, Josten repeats his selection as a Scholar All-America and is the first Gonzaga player to earn NSCAA/adidas Scholar Athlete of the Year honors. He maintains a 3.83 GPA in mechanical engineering. He closed his career ranked third in school history in career goals (34) and assists (17) and fourth in career points (85). A three-time NSCAA/adidas All-Far West Region selection, he was one of 29 players on the 2007 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.

Josten was a three-time All-West Coast Conference first-team selection and a three-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America selection, the last two years as a first-team pick.

The Scholar All-America team is divided into a University Division (which includes all NCAA Division I teams) and a College Division (which includes all non-Division schools).

Josten and the all of the honored players will be invited to the NSCAA All-America Luncheon, which will be held Jan. 19, as part of the 2008 NSCAA Convention in Baltimore, Md.
