2017-18: ITA Scholar Athlete…WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention. Singles: Posted a 6-10 overall singles record including a 3-3 duals mark…earned his first win of the fall season with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Santa Clara’s Max Heerinckx at the Aggie Invitational…defeated Peter Shin of Idaho 6-4, 6-4 in the round of 128 at the Dar Walters Fall Classic…earned a 6-0, 6-4 win over Portland State’s Majeed Bukhari in the round of 32 at the Bulldog Classic…posted three straight wins to open the dual season including a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Whitworth’s Nicholas Adell. Doubles: Finished the season with a 6-16 overall record…competed most often with Matthew Perkins and Hunter Egger…picked up his first doubles win of the season with a 6-3 win over Seattle on Oct. 28…won four straight to open the spring season including a 6-0 sweep over Whitworth at No. 2 doubles…ended the season with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles to clinch the doubles point over Saint Mary’s.2016-17: Singles: 9-14 overall, 2-10 in dual play...won first two collegiate matches to reach semifinal at EWU Fall Classic Sept. 16-18...also opened Bulldog Classic Oct. 28-30 and Duck Invitational Nov. 11-13 with two straight wins...at Bulldog Classic Oct. 29, downed Carlos Neto, an Idaho player with an International Tennis Federation point, in three sets...won consecutive dual matches at No. 5 singles Jan. 28 versus Eastern Washington and Feb. 4 versus Idaho...win against the Vandals' Lucas Coutinho tied match at 3-all before GU clinched dual win...one game away from victory April 14 against Saint Mary's' Daniel Krtuik April 14. Doubles: Team-best 15-13 overall, 10-8 in duals...teamed with Ronzai Saurombe during spring duals at No. 3 doubles...first spring doubles win came Jan. 28 versus Ness/Vuckovic of Eastern Washington...won five straight matches from Jan. 28 to March 10...downed Idaho's Fonseca/Scarpelli 6-4 on Feb. 4...4-4 in WCC play...opened conference action with wins over San Francisco and Santa Clara March 25-26...downed No. 41 Portland's Fisher/Donat 7-5 April 8...also beat Saint Mary's' Lee/Lagman 6-4 April 14.
Lakeridge High School: Topped the Lakeridge singles lineup for four years…qualified for the state tournament all four years, finishing third as a senior…First Team All-State as a senior and First Team All-League all four years…honored in Athletic Wall of Fame at Lakeridge…also played four years of soccer and one year of football…earned Dr. Ken Giles Memorial Merit Award…Academic Student All-Star and a member of the National Honors Society.Other Experience: Reached second round of 2016 Spanish National Tournament...won Willamette Valley Junior Championship in 2014…reached finals of Lewis & Clark Spring championships and TRL District Tennis Tournament in 2015. Personal: Parents are Carla and Carlos…has two siblings named Marcos and Bruno…father Carlos played tennis at LSU, finishing second in the NCAA in 1988…grandfather Eduardo won a bronze medal in field hockey in 1960 Olympic Games and also participated in 1964 Olympic…finance major and computer science minor…has many career goals, some of which include getting a job straight out of college and staying in touch with all the communities he’s grown up in…chose Gonzaga because “When I took my visit to Gonzaga, I got this sense of community that no other college I had visited offered. Everyone was so welcoming and willing to help in any way, whether it was by holding the door open for you or showing you around campus. Gonzaga’s athletic and academic facilities are truly amazing. The school has great academic and life values that I know they will help me become a better person. I felt like I connected really well with Pete and Derek (coaches) as well as the guys on the team. I have always believed in going with your gut, and my gut said Gonzaga.”
