Men’s Tennis Comeback Bid Falls Short, 4-3

SPOKANE, Wash.— Gonzaga men’s tennis came from behind to tie the score at 3-3, but fell in a third-set tiebreak on the final court in a 4-3 loss to Pacific on Friday afternoon at the Stevens Center.

Gonzaga’s Emilio Moreno earned a win to even the team score, but the Tigers took a win on Court 3 to take the team victory. GU also got strong efforts from Sam Feit and Kyle Everly on the day as well.

In doubles, the Zags got the first match to finish with a 6-4 win by Sam Feit and Ruadhan O’Sullivan on Court 1. The Tigers then finished off tight matches on Courts 2 and 3 with a 6-4 and 7-5 win to take the point.

In singles, Feit again got the Zags off to a good start with a win. He dominated in a 6-3, 6-3 victory on Court 2 to bring the team score to 1-1. GU added another win by Kyle Everly on Court 6 to take a 2-1 lead. Everly was down 2-5 in the first set and came back to win in a tiebreak 7-6(3) before taking the second set 6-3.

Pacific answered with a win on Court 4 to even the score and then took a 3-2 lead with a win on Court 1. The remaining two matches went to third sets to decide the outcome.

On Court 5, Emilio Moreno took care of business in the third set, dominating the final frame 6-1 to tie the score 3-3. Rettke then wasn’t able to hold on to a 5-3 lead in the third set, taking a 6-4, 4-6, 6-7(3) loss.

Gonzaga will play its home finale on Saturday at Noon at the Stevens Center, hosting Saint Mary’s. Check the men’s tennis schedule page on for available links to live video and stats.
