O'Sullivan and Feit Extend Record Run
Oct. 21, 2017
STOCKTON, Calif.--Doubles team Ruadhan O'Sullivan and Sam Feit reached the semifinals of the ITA Northwest Regionals' doubles bracket Saturday, extending their record-breaking time at the tournament held in Stockton, Calif.
O'Sullivan and Feit continued their historic run by picking up two more doubles victories Saturday. In their first match of the day, they dispatched No. 9 seed Ty Gentry and Armando Soemarno of Oregon 8-5 for their second win over a seeded foe in the tournament. In the quarterfinals, they took down California's Can Kaya and Gunther Matta 8-6 for a spot in the final four. Match formats for the final two rounds will now go to best of three standard sets rather than the one pro set played thus far.
Yesterday, they became the first Zag duo to reach the Round of 16 at the regional championship with a pair of wins. They are 6-2 together this fall.
Feit also opened the day still active in the main singles bracket. In a Round of 16 match-up, he faced Simon Stevens of Oregon, the bracket's No. 7 seed. Feit claimed seven total games, but he lost 6-3, 6-4 to see his singles run come to an end.
Fellow sophomore Kyle Everly played a pair of consolation bracket matches, advancing into the fourth round before tasting defeat. In his third-round match, he opened up a 5-0 lead in the first set before foe Samuel Roberts withdrew via injury. In the fourth round, Everly won his first set against UW's Piers Foley 5-7, but Foley took the second 6-1 and the third set super tiebreak 10-4 to eliminate Everly.
In extra consolation play, Vincent Rettke picked up his second singles victory of the weekend, downing Youssef Hassan of Fresno State in straight sets.
O'Sullivan and Feit will play their semifinal contest at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22, once again at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.
