STOCKTON, Calif.—Gonzaga men’s tennis pair Ruadhan O’Sullivan and Sam Feit saw their run in the main doubles bracket of the ITA Northwest Regionals end Sunday as they lost in three sets at Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center in Stockton, Calif.

The Zag duo hung tough against the top-seeded pair from California, taking the first set off Billy Griffith and JT Nishimura 3-6. The Bears’ duo countered with a 6-4 set two victory, and they won the third set super tiebreak 10-3 to advance on to the final.

“We’re thrilled for Sam and [Ruadhan’s] run at Regionals,” said Gonzaga head coach Peter MacDonald. “They competed well and won the big points throughout the tournament.”

Despite the loss, O’Sullivan and Feit still became the first Zag pair to reach the regional championship’s semifinal round. They went 4-1 together during the tournament, beating two seeded pairs in the process. Overall, they are 9-3 on the year.

O’Sullivan and Feit’s match was the only contest for Gonzaga during the Bulldogs’ final day at the ITA Northwest Regionals. In addition to the doubles run, Feit reached the Round of 16 in singles play, the first Bulldog to do so since 2014. Two more Zags – O’Sullivan and Emilio Moreno – joined him in the Round of 32.

“The guys have improved since the beginning of the school year,” MacDonald continued. “This should be encouraging and serve as a reward for all the hard work they’ve been putting in!”

Gonzaga will wrap up the 2017 fall season next weekend with their home Bulldog Classic. The annual tournament will run Oct. 27-29 inside The Stevens Center.
