Rettke Qualifies for ITA National Summer Championships
Aug. 2, 2017
TEMPE, Ariz.—Gonzaga men’s tennis player Vincent Rettke earned a spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Summer Championships after a strong performance on the ITA Summer Circuit.
Rettke won two singles titles over the summer, claiming bracket wins at Middle Tennessee State July 1-3 and Alabama July 14-16. He also finished in second place at Georgia Gwinnett July 29-31. In doubles, the Madison, Ala., native took second place at Georgia Gwinnett with the help of Harvard’s Galen Lee, and Rettke reached the semifinal rounds of the other two tournaments. Throughout the month, Rettke went 13-1 individually and 6-3 with a partner.
His strong play landed Rettke 608 points on the Summer Circuit, fourth-most in the nation. With that top five finish, Rettke automatically qualifies for the ITA National Summer Championships held August 12-15 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Rettke, a rising sophomore, and the rest of the Gonzaga men’s tennis team will begin the 2017 fall tournament season in October.
