MTEN Announces 2018 Dual Schedule
Nov. 30, 2017
SPOKANE, Wash.—Gonzaga men’s tennis head coach Peter MacDonald announced the Bulldogs’ 2018 dual schedule Thursday. The slate includes 10 home matches and four contests against participants in last season’s NCAA Tournament.
“This schedule will give the guys the opportunity to play some tough opponents leading into WCC play,” said MacDonald. “We’re really excited to get underway in January.”
The Zags begin the spring with six consecutive home duals. Opening Day comes Saturday, Jan. 20, as they host both Whitman and Whitworth in a double-header. On Friday, Feb. 2, Seattle U comes to Spokane, and Montana State visits The Stevens Center just one day later. Gonzaga faces its first opponent from last season’s NCAA Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 6, when reigning Big Sky Tournament champions Idaho come to town. The homestand wraps up with a match against UC Davis Sunday, Feb. 11.
After their long stretch at home, the Bulldogs will begin a seven-match road trip. It starts in Oregon as the Zags take on Oregon on Saturday, Feb. 24. The Ducks reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season and ended the year ranked No. 24 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. A day later, GU begins West Coast Conference action with a dual at Portland.
On Sunday, March 11, the Zags fly to San Diego for their second consecutive conference match. That contest with the reigning conference champions kicks off Spring Break, which the Zags will spend in Southern California for matches at UC Santa Barbara March 13, at UC Irvine March 15, and against Yale March 17. A week later, the long road trip ends in Provo, Utah, with a conference match at BYU.
The Zags then play their first home matches in over a month, hosting San Francisco on Friday, March 30, and Santa Clara Saturday, March 31. Another trip to Southern California will pit GU against Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine on April 7 and April 8. The regular season then wraps up the next weekend when the Zags face Pacific Friday, April 13, and Saint Mary’s Saturday, April 14.
Should the Bulldogs finish among the top six in the conference standings, they’ll head to the WCC Championships, held April 26-28 in Claremont, Calif.
