MTEN Adds Hunter Egger to Roster
Dec. 21, 2017
SPOKANE, Wash.--Head coach Peter MacDonald announced Thursday that freshman Hunter Egger has joined the Gonzaga men's tennis team. Egger will join the team after winter break and is eligible to play for the Zags in the upcoming dual season.
"We are excited to add Hunter to the roster," said Gonzaga head coach Peter MacDonald. "Hunter has a lot of weapons in his game and has the potential to make an impact in our lineup. I think Hunter will add value to our culture, because he's a hard worker and is focused on the process of refining his skills every time he steps on the court."
Egger comes to Gonzaga from Bellevue College and is one of the top class of 2017 recruits in the state. TennisRecruiting.net listed the Bellevue, Washington, native as the third best in-state recruit from 2017 and the sixth best from the Northwest. Nationally, he comes in at No. 151 and has been rated as high as No. 46 in the last four years. Last summer, he reached the semifinal round of the Seattle City Open, and he won the VTC Boys Winter Level Four 18 Singles draw in February.
In doubles play, Egger and his teammate reached the quarterfinals of the 127th Washington State Open last August.
Egger puts Gonzaga's men's tennis roster at nine for 2018: two juniors, five sophomores, and two freshmen. The Bulldogs begin the spring season with duals against Whitman and Whitworth on Jan. 20 inside The Stevens Center. The morning contest against Whitman begins at 10:00 a.m.
