Wolfram Named Zag of the Month
April 19, 2017
March's Zag of the Month has been awarded to Emma Wolfram, a member of the women's basketball team and volunteer chair for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Board. Wolfram began her career at Gonzaga in the fall of 2013 and has established herself as an extraordinary leader with hard work and commitment to her coaches, teammates and community.
Wolfram has had an outstanding career, playing for both the Zags and her home country of Canada. She has faced much adversity due to injuries, fighting to overcome each one and get back on the court. After a successful rehabilitation from a knee injury this past year, Wolfram emerged as one of the most influential leaders on her team. A fellow Zag describes Wolfram as, “a strategic offensive weapon and a defensive asset, she is a force to be reckoned with on and off the court”.
She is majoring in human physiology, holding a 3.59 GPA, and is already looking to pursue a potential graduate degree. Her hard work and dedication in the classroom has earned her Dean’s List recognition for Fall 2013, Spring 2014, Spring 2016, and Fall 2016. Her classroom excellence has also won her WCC All-Academic and All-Freshman Team honors.
Wolfram actively participates in volunteer work around the Spokane community, making it a point to encourage all of her team to do the same. As the volunteer chair, she helps to create new outreach opportunities, and coordinate others to join in. Over her four years at Gonzaga, she has served at nearly every service event her schedule has allowed. Some of these events include Trunk-or-Treat, the MDA Walk, the JDRF Walk, Habitat for Humanity, Blessings Under the Bridge, the Logan Block Party, Spokane Stars Clinic, Transitions, The Humane Society, Catholic Charities collections, elementary school visits, and multiple hospital visits.
A student-athlete selected as Zag-of-the-Month exhibits effort and excellence in academics, leadership, integrity, campus involvement, community service, dedication to team, and the ability to serve as a role model for current and future GU students and student-athletes. Each month GU’s S.A.A.C. nominates and selects one of their peers for the award.
