Zags Announce The Signing Of Transfer Katie Campbell

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga head coach Lisa Fortier announced the signing of incoming sophomore Katie Campbell for the 2017-2018 season on Thursday.
Campbell comes from Ventura College in Ventura, Calif, where she averaged 18.4 points per game last season in 33 games in the California Community College Athletic Association, and was a First Team All-State selection and the Western State Conference North Division MVP. She shot 41.3 percent from the field in her lone season there, going 32.2 percent from three and 77.3 percent from the line. She also averaged 6.3 rebounds per game and 3.6 assists per game for a team that went 28-6 and advanced to the CCCAA State Semifinal game. She scored in double figures 28 times and scored 20 or more points 14 times, including three times above 30 points.
The Oxnard, Calif. native attended Oaks Christian High School in Westlake, Calif. where she was a McDonald’s All-American nominee and All-State and All-CIF Open Division honoree her senior year. She was the Marmonte League MVP and Ventura County Star Player of the Year. Campbell was selected Daily Press All-Area and led her team to the CIF State Division I Playoffs. She was also selected All-Marmonte League and All-CIF-SS Open Division her junior year. Over her four years, her team went 40-0 in Marmonte League action.
“Katie is going to be a great addition to our team,” Gonzaga head coach Lisa Fortier said. “She has the ability to stretch the defense with her perimeter shooting, and can make plays for herself and her teammates off the dribble. She has been consistently praised for her competitiveness and drive. Her length and style of play, combined with her determination, makes her a great fit for us. We are excited to welcome her to our family.”
Campbell will be immediately eligible to play for the Zags this upcoming season.
