Lisa Fortier Keynote Speaker At Women Lead Seattle Conference
May 18, 2017
SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga head coach Lisa Fortier will be one of the keynote speakers for the upcoming Women Lead Seattle, a leadership conference designed to educate and empower women personally and professionally, from 8 am to 4 pm, Friday, May 19, at the Bell Harbor Conference Center in Seattle.
She will speak on the topic, "Being a Successful Woman in a Male-Dominated Industry." Caroline Simard, Ph.D., senior director of research at Stanford University's Clayman Institute for Gender Research, will open the conference with a keynote address regarding the latest research in gender equity studies.
"One of the most important parts of our program is developing our young women into strong leaders," Fortier said. "I am thankful for those who have impacted my growth as a leader, and I am always eager for opportunities to share my experience with others."
In her third season, 2016-17, Fortier's Zags swept the West Coast Conference regular-season and tournament championships, becoming the fastest coach in program history to 50 wins en route. They advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in nine years, and ninth time overall. Fortier became the first coach in program history to lead her team to the NCAA Tournament twice in her first three years, and she was named WCC Coach of the Year for the second time in three seasons, also the first GU coach to achieve that feat. Fortier was the 2015 recipient of the WBCA Division I Rookie Coach of the Year Award. In her three seasons at the helm, Fortier has coached nine All-WCC selections, 16 WCC All-Academic honorees, the most in a three-year stretch in program history, and two D1-AAA Scholar-Athlete Team selections.
The conference consists of skill-building workshops and panels including "Empowering Leadership: Coaching Skills that Inspire Others to Succeed," "Emotional Intelligence and Career Advancement," and "Managing Your Career: Where Branding and Emotional Intelligence Intersect."
Cost is $179 and includes two continuing education credits and meals. For more information, visit www.gonzaga.edu/womeninleadership or call Sherri Lynch at (509) 313-3684.
