2009-10 Women's Basketball Schedule In PDF Format Get Acrobat Reader

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University women's basketball will play five of its last seven West Coast Conference games on the road in 2009-10. The lone two games at the McCarthey Athletic Center will be against Loyola Marymount University Feb. 18 and Pepperdine University on Feb. 20. The Zags matchup against the Waves will also mark Senior Day for Gonzaga.

UNIVERSITY OF PORTLAND (Sat. Jan.9 & Sat. Feb. 6)
The University of Portland finished second in the West Coast Conference regular season standings in 2008-09 with a 10-4 mark. The Pilots second place in the WCC was the program's best league finish since 1996-97. Overall, UP had a 17-14 record, its first winning season since 1998-99 and most wins since it won 19 games during the 1997-98 campaign. The Pilots fell in the semifinals of the West Coast Conference Tournament but earned a bid into the Women's National Basketball Tournament (WNIT); their first post season appearance in 10 years.

Gonzaga University split its two-game series with Portland last season. The Bulldogs defeated the Pilots in Portland 60-49 to open the season but fell to UP in the McCarthey Athletic Center 70-67. The loss was one of only two in WCC action for the Bulldogs in 2008-09.

The Zags have won 16 of the last 17 meetings with the Pilots.

SAINT MARY'S COLLEGE (Thur. Jan. 14 & Thur. Feb. 11)
Saint Mary's College closed out the 2008-09 season 11-19 overall and tied for fourth in the West Coast Conference regular season standings at 7-7.The Gaels ended the year falling in the first round of the WCC Tournament to Santa Clara University.

Junior Louella Tomlinson returns for SMC as the reigning West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Gonzaga defeated Saint Mary's both times last season, earning a 91-63 victory on the road in Moraga, Calif., and taking an 87-56 decision at the McCarthey Athletic Center. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 25-22 and have won 12 straight.

UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO (Sat. Jan. 16 & Sat. Feb. 13)
The University of San Diego ended the 2008-09 season at 19-13 overall, 7-7 in West Coast Conference play. The Toreros, who tied for fourth in the WCC regular season, were seeded sixth in the WCC Tournament and won three-straight games to gain a spot in the tournament championship against Gonzaga University. The Bulldogs, who lost to San Diego in the 2008 WCC tournament final, prevailed against the Toreros, earning a 66-55 victory.

Gonzaga won its two regular-season match-ups against San Diego last year, taking a 109-73 win in California and a 77-67 victory at the McCarthey Athletic Center. The Bulldogs hold a 27-20 lead in the all-time series and have won 15 of the last 16 meetings.

PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY (Thur. Jan. 21 & Sat. Feb. 20)
Pepperdine University had a 16-13 overall record in 2008-09 and a 9-5 mark in West Coast Conference play. The Waves finished third in the WCC regular season.

GU split its regular season series with Pepperdine, defeating the Waves in Spokane 66-43 and falling to them 72-62 in Malibu. The Waves lead the all-time series with the Zags 29-21.

LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY (Sat. Jan. 23 & Thur. Feb. 18)
Loyola Marymount University finished 2008-09 18-12 overall, 7-7 in the West Coast Conference. The Lions faced Gonzaga University in the semifinals of the WCC Tournament. The Bulldogs defeated fourth-seeded LMU 74-63.

The Lions return Alex Cowling the 2009 WCC Newcomer of the Year.

Gonzaga won both its regular season games against the Lions. The Bulldogs won 83-58 at the McCarthey Athletic Center and earned an 81-78 come-from-behind victory in Los Angeles. The Bulldogs hold the 27-21 edge in the all-time series and have won eight of the last nine meetings.

SANTA CLARA UNIVERSITY (Thur. Jan. 28 & Thur. Feb. 25)
Santa Clara University closed out 2008-09 at 4-27, 1-13 in West Coast Conference. The Broncos are coached by former Gonzaga University player and assistant coach Jennifer Mountain, who starts her second year at the helm in 2009-10.

The Bulldogs defeated the Broncos twice last season; 64-57 and 92-63. Santa Clara holds the 27-20 lead in the all-time series but Gonzaga has won six-straight.

UNIVERSITY OF SAN FRANCISCO (Sat. Jan. 30 & Sat. Feb 27)
The University of San Francisco had a 7-22 overall mark and a 3-11 record in West Coast Conference action in 2008-09. Gonzaga University defeated the Dons in both regular season matchups a season ago. The Bulldogs won 63-42 and 71-35. San Francisco holds the slight edge in the all-time series 24-23 but Gonzaga has won seven-straight.
