Sept. 29, 2010
SPOKANE, Wash. - Basketball fans will have their first opportunity to see the 2010-11 Gonzaga University women's basketball team as the Zags host FAN FEST on Saturday, Oct. 23 in the McCarthey Athletic Center. The event is open and free to the public. Doors will open at 4 p.m., with the event starting at 5 p.m.
"This is a great opportunity to see this year's team and get everybody excited about the upcoming season; what will hopefully be another memorable one," explained head coach Kelly Graves, in his 11th year at the helm. "It should be a lot of fun. There are a lot of things going on and this is really a first for a program."
The event will be very interactive for the fans this year. They will have the opportunity to meet the players before and after the event to get autographs, as well as have the chance to meet the cheerleaders and Spike. There will be a half-court shot contest for selected fans to win a Zag Prize Pack, and a player/fan 3-point shooting contest.
The 2010-11 Bulldog players will also scrimmage each other.
Along with the scrimmage, 3-point contest, and half-court shot; posters, schedule cards and magnets will be given away.
Gonzaga is coming off its best season in school history. The Bulldogs won their sixth-straight West Coast Conference regular-season title, third WCC Tournament title in three years, and made a splash in the NCAA Tournament, earning a spot in the Sweet Sixteen for the first time and ended the year ranked No. 12.
The Zags return 10 letterwinners and add five newcomers for the 2010-11 season. Returnees include two-time WCC Player of the Year and All-America Courtney Vandersloot; WCC Newcomer of the Year Katelan Redmon and Canadian National Team member Janelle Bekkering.
