A familiar face returned to the Gonzaga University women's rowing staff when former Bulldogs coxswain Courtney Haase joined the Bulldog staff in 2006. Haase, who for two seasons helped coach the Zags novice and varsity boats, was promoted to first assistant in the summer of 2007 and now primarily coaches the novice crews. In her first season working primarily with the novice crews, Haase coached the Novice 8+ to a fifth place finish at the Pacific-10 Championships and a second place finish at the WIRA Championships. Novice rower Hannah Winters, who flurished under the guidance of Haase, also was tabbed to participate in the 2008 Freshman National Camp. This season, the novice team claimed first place at the WIRA Championships, placed eighth at the Pacific-10 Championships and won two of three races at the prestigious Charles River Challenge. Also, four rowers were invited to the National Team Freshman Camp. Haase was the Bulldogs coxswain on four West Coast Conference championship teams from 2000-03 earning All-WCC honors in 2001 and 2002. She also earned first team All-WIRA honors in 2003 as she coxed the Gonzaga varsity 8+ boat to the ECAC National Rowing Invitational Championship. A 2003 graduate of Gonzaga, Haase worked as the novice women's coach at Saint Mary's College prior to returning to Spokane. In 2004 the Gaels won the Novice 4+ championship at the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships. Haase is a Level II US Rowing certified coach. |
