SEATTLE, Wash. - Gonzaga University women's rowing closed out its fall season with a strong showing at the Head of the Lake Regatta, hosted by the University of Washington Sunday.

"We had some great racing experiences across the board today," stated second year head coach Melissa Flint. "Our boats have showed improvements every week this fall and today was no exception. It was good weather and great competition."

The Varsity 8+ kicked off the racing for the Bulldog women. The Zags claimed a fourth place finish with a time of 18:07.56. Host Washington won the race with a time of 17:30.39, followed by Washington State University at 17:38.23. The University of British Columbia squeaked out a third place finish just ahead of Gonzaga at 18:02.36.

The Varsity 8+ boat was comprised of Emily Wilson, Alissa Stempson, Liz Moore, Sam Cekovic, Hanna McClintock, Katie Atkins, Jana Holcombe, Sami Koppinger, Whitney Engle.

The Bulldogs best finish of the day came in the Second Varsity 8+ race. Gonzaga claimed third place, crossing the finish line in 18:59.25. Washington and Washington State again placed first and second with times of 17:36.34 and 18:20.14.

The Second Varsity 8+ consisted of Carrie Kremier, Lauren Miller, Sophie Bluhm, Therese Yrani, Hannah Winters, Alexis Curtright, Rachel Ross, Paula Welly, Lana Bowie.


 

 

The final women's race of the morning was the Third Varsity 8+, which Gonzaga placed 10th and 12th. The Bulldog times were 21:24.34 and 22:24.66. Washington also won this race with a finish of 18:41.52.

Third Varsity 8+ boat was Nicky Talkington, Madison Feddersen, Courtney Norris, Michelle Conway, Elise Perkins, Olivia Miller, Lauren Diseth, Martha Buttry, Riley Nelson.

Fourth Varsity 8+ was Natalie Wolfrom, Emily Engel, Alicia Adams, Teddi McGuire, Lizzie Briacks, Chelsea Quilling, Ashley Ruderman, Nicole Petiet, Lainie Gunsul.
