Feb. 13, 2018
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Gonzaga Bulldogs completed their first spring tournament on Tuesday with the third round at The Gold Rush at El Dorado Golf Course in Long Beach, Calif.
Francesca Santoni was the top finisher for GU, shooting a final round 77 to finish in a tie for 44th at +14. She birdied the par-three 12th on Tuesday, but was solid with 11 pars. She was +6 on the par fours in the tourney, top-20 in the field in that category.
Jessica Mangrobang matched her 77 and finished in 50th, two strokes back at +16. She had birdies on the par-four 13th and par-three 17th. She had 12 pars in her final round and was +2 on the par three holes, 16th best in the field on the week. Diana Araneta fired a final round 79 to finish in a tie for 64th, as she had two birdies in her final round to finish +23.
The Zags finished 13th at +79. Georgia took the team title at +19 and Sophie Hausmann of Idaho won the individual championship by three strokes at four-under par.
“We really hoped for more today,” Gonzaga head coach Brad Rickel said. “With the 36 holes played on a new course for us yesterday, we believed we were ready to shoot a great score. It shows we have not played a tournament in four months and we need to work harder to get rid of the rust.”
The Zags will return to action in just under a month at the Meadow Club Women’s Collegiate in Fairfax, Calif. on March 5 and 6.
