Sept. 19, 2017

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Jessica Mangrobang completed a solid tournament to jumpstart her 2017-18 season, finishing in a tie for 26th after firing a final-round 75 at the Ptarmgian Ram Classic on Tuesday at Ptarmigan Country Club.

Her final round featured an even front nine with birdies on the par-four third and par-three sixth. She fought off some bogeys on the back with a birdie on the par-four 13th to finish +6 in the tournament.

The round capped a career-low finish for Mangrobang, beating her previous best of +14 (230) set at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown last fall where she finished tied for 24th.

Freshman Francesca Santoni started her GU career well with a final round 79 to finish +20 and in 75th. On Tuesday, she had birdies on number five, 12, and 14 going +3 on the back.

The Zags finished 15th as a team, +85. New Mexico State came through to win the event that saw different leaders on every day. The beat San Jose State by five strokes at -10. Suthavee Chanachai of New Mexico State held her score of 11-under to win by three strokes.

Mangrobang added 10 pars on Tuesday to lead the field with 40 on the week. She was +2 on the par-four holes, 10th best in the field.

"We are very proud of how Jessica played this week," Gonzaga head coach Brad Rickel said.  "She played hard each day and had a great attitude.  Francesca had some good moments for her first collegiate tournament.  In the end, our young team will learn hard lessons this year as they mature.  Next week we will build on the lessons learned this week."

The Zags will return home and prepare to host a talented 18-team field at the Coeur d’Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational next Tuesday and Wednesday, September 26 and 27.
