GU Varsity Eight Takes Win At Lake Natoma Invite

GOLD RIVER, Calif. – The Zags completed three more races on Lake Natoma on Sunday as part of the Lake Natoma Invitational.
The Bulldogs were joined by Alabama, Sacramento State, and San Diego in all three races. The varsity four opened the day at 7:42.1, nine seconds back of Alabama but three seconds ahead of Sac State and 29 seconds better than USD. The second varsity eight finished in the same spot at 7:04.1, less than a second behind Alabama. They beat Sac State by 13 seconds and USD by 19 seconds. The varsity eight wrapped the day by taking the win by seven seconds over Alabama at 6:56.6. Sac State was second behind that and USD came in 15 seconds later. The varsity eight won their Sunday heat for the second consecutive season.
“We learned more today on the race course about where we can make improvements going forward,” Gonzaga head coach Glenn Putyrae said. “We are still working on sorting out line-ups and got some more information we think will improve our team as we get ready for our last few races.”
The Bulldogs will have a weekend off before facing Washington State in the Fawley Cup on Silver Lake outside of Spokane in Medical Lake on April 28.
