Oct. 28, 2017
The pairs boats opened the day with Lauren English and Isabelle Belzil taking 20th at 20:30.0. Isabella Spies and Georgia Davey were in next in 26th at 20:50.5 and Alexandra Pinkley and Charlotte Lepp were one spot back in 20:52.1. The first six pairs joined Marie Hayman in the varsity eight boat to finish 11th at 17:46.0. Washington and California dominated the leaders, but GU beat WCC foes San Diego and Saint Mary’s.
“Overall we were pleased with the progress made today,” Gonzaga head coach Glenn Putyrae said. “The conditions were amazing so everyone came off the water pleased with their effort and realistic about where they finished. We have a lot of work left to do and another opportunity to improve next weekend.”
The 5,000-meter race took place on Lake Natoma and the last 2,000 meters of the race are the race course the Zags compete on for the West Coast Conference Championships at the end of the season.
The Bulldogs will wrap their fall season next weekend at the Head of the Lake on Lake Union in Seattle on Saturday.
