Zags Head To Portland For Scrimmage

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women’s rowing team is hitting the water in a competitive setting for the first time in 2018 this Friday and Saturday. They will compete in two scrimmages against Portland at Vancouver Lake, Wash.

The scrimmage against the Pilots will begin at 2 pm on Friday and the Saturday event will commence at 9 am. The 2018 schedule includes these scrimmages and four regattas in the lead up to the WCC Championships back at Lake Natoma, Calif. and the NCAA Championships in Sarasota, Fla.
The Zags are pursuing their fourth-straight West Coast Conference Championship and 17th overall. Since 1997, the Zags have won 16 of the 21 WCC Championships. Last season the Zags advanced to the NCAA Championships for the fourth time in five years.
GU last competed against Portland in the 2017 West Coast Conference Championships, which the Zags won. Gonzaga beat Portland in all three races, including the varsity eight, second varsity eight, and varsity four events.
“We are looking forward to getting on the water and competing Friday and Saturday,” Gonzaga head coach Glenn Putyrae said. “We are grateful to the University of Portland coaches and VLC for hosting us again this year.”
