Zags Have Eight Selected To CRCA Scholar-Athlete Team

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga Bulldogs had eight members selected to the 2017 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete Team.
Junior Isabelle Belzil returns for the second-straight year, and sophomore Rachael Arand, sophomore Hannah Churchill, sophomore Lauren English, sophomore Marie Hayman, junior Anna Johnson, sophomore Olivia Lada, and junior Isabella Spies are all first time honorees.
Selected from the varsity eight boat are Belzil, majoring in business administration with a 3.64 GPA, English, majoring in nursing with a 3.52 GPA, and Lada, majoring in history with a 3.84 GPA. The Zags’ top crew finished 19th at the NCAA Championships after winning the West Coast Conference Championship. They had three wins this season, four runner-up finishes, and nine top-five finishes prior to postseason action.
From the second varsity eight is Arand, majoring in sports management with a 3.88 GPA, Churchill, majoring in physical education with a 3.57 GPA, Hayman, majoring in sports management with a 3.68 GPA, Johnson, majoring in nursing with a 3.65 GPA, and Spies, majoring in political science with a 3.58 GPA. They also finished 19th at the NCAA Championships and won the WCC Championship. Prior to that, they had five top-five finishes on the year.
The Bulldogs finished 19th at the NCAA Championships, making their fourth appearance in five years, and won their 16th overall and third-straight WCC Championship.
