Zags Win Road Opener at Portland State

HILLSBORO, Ore. -- The Gonzaga women's soccer team remained unbeaten with a 2-1 victory at Portland State Sunday.

In their first road game of the season, the Zags (3-0-1) matched their best start in program history with the victory. The 2006 GU squad began the season 3-0-1, before finishing the year with 10 wins.

After a scoreless first half, the Bulldogs' Madeline Gotta scored her second goal of the season off of an assist from Sophia Viviano. Gotta kicked in a ball from 12 yards out, following a cross from Viviano.

Eleven minutes later, Gonzaga's Callie Best dribbled past two defenders and struck a ball off of the right post into the net. It was Best's second goal of the season as well.

Kasey Isobe found the net for Portland State (1-2-0) in the 84th minute. Tasi Poore and Rilee Castilla were credited with assists.

The Zags' Isabel Jones made four saves, while Abbie Faingold had five saves for the Vikings.

Gonzaga outshot PSU 16-11, with a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. The Bulldogs had a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
