Jencks Records Brace in Gonzaga Victory

SPOKANE, Wash. -- India Jencks scored her sixth and seventh goals of the season in the Gonzaga women's soccer team's 5-1 rout win over Fairleigh Dickinson at Luger Field Friday.

Jencks has scored six goals in the last four games. She also entered the top-10 in program history for most goals in a single season. Her seven goals in just seven games are tied for eighth on the GU all-time list.

The Zags (6-1-1) opened the scoring in the 30th minute when Jencks struck in a rebound, after Sophia Viviano's shot hit the post. Just before halftime, Maddie Kincaid scored her second goal of the season off of an assist from Savanah Van Citters. It was Van Citters' second assist of the season.

Madeline Gotta's third assist of the season came nine minutes into the second half, when she found Jencks through the FDU defense. Jencks then dribbled around the keeper and kicked the ball into the net. A minute later, the Knights' Sofia Albertsson headed in her third goal of the season off of a free kick.

The Bulldogs' Maggie Conners and Viviano added goals two minutes apart. Viviano was credited with an assist on Conners' second goal of the season in the 78th minute. Viviano then scored her third goal of the season off of Gotta's second assist of the game. Viviano took seven shots in the game.

In the first-ever meeting between the programs, Gonzaga outshot Fairleigh Dickinson, 19-8. The Zags placed a season-high 12 shots on frame. FDU's (2-6-1) Amanda Fitzgerald made seven saves, while Isabel Jones made one for GU.

Gonzaga hosts RV/23 Memphis (6-2-0) Sunday at 1 p.m. The Tigers were upset at Idaho Friday, 5-4.
