Zags Topple No. 23 Memphis, 3-2

SPOKANE, Wash. -- India Jencks scored a pair of goals in Gonzaga women's soccer's 3-2 victory over RV/23 Memphis at Luger Field Sunday.
The Zags' (7-1-1) first win over a ranked opponent in 10 years came behind Jencks' third brace of the season, and a goal and an assist from Sophia Viviano. Savanah Van Citters recorded a pair of assists as well. Jencks scored her seventh and eighth goals in the last five games. She has a conference-high nine goals this season.
Gonzaga remained unbeaten at home after outshooting Memphis, 11-10, with a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Bulldogs outshot the Tigers, 4-0, in the second half.
Seven minutes into the game, Jencks kicked in a cross from Van Citters to open the scoring. Sydney Kingston's first goal of the season evened the score in the 28th minute. She headed in a free kick from Jessica Lisi. Just 37 seconds later, Jencks received a ball from Viviano and Van Citters, made a turn and struck a shot to the far post.
Memphis (6-3-0) tied the score again in the 34th minute. Elizabeth Woerner slid a shot past the GU keeper for her seventh goal of the season. Clarissa Larisey was credited with an assist.
In the 64th minute, Tianna Helm passed a ball to Viviano, who dribbled and then struck the ball into the net from the top of the box. It was her fourth goal of the season.
Rachel Ashworth Shepard tallied four saves for Memphis. GU's Isabel Jones stopped three shots.
Gonzaga concludes its non-conference schedule against Seattle (4-4-0) at Luger Field next Sunday. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
