Bulldogs Drop Match To Denver

BOULDER, Colo. – Gonzaga University’s women’s soccer team lost a 3-0 decision to the University of Denver in each team’s final match at the Colorado Soccer Classic Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs (4-5-0) dropped its second consecutive match against a 2007 NCAA Tournament participant while playing at the two-match tournament hosted by the University of Colorado. After holding #21 Colorado scoreless for 85 minutes on Friday, Gonzaga (4-5-0) could not overcome an early goal by Denver (7-1-1) on Sunday. GU was outshot 15-5 and trailed throughout most of the match after DU scored just over six minutes in. Gonzaga buckled down on defense the rest of the first half and throughout most of second until DU added two goals late. The Pioneers picked up their second goal of the match in the 72nd minute, using a header off of rebound that had bounced around the box. DU later added another goal in 77th minute to cap the scoring at 3-0. Sophomore keeper Lauren Ames made three saves for the Bulldogs. The Zags face Washington State University in Pullman on Friday and hosts Eastern Washington University next Sunday.
