STOCKTON, Calif. -- A pair of second half goals from Sophia Viviano fueled Gonzaga women's soccer to a 2-1 road win at Pacific to open West Coast Conference play Friday.

The Zags (9-1-1, 1-0-0 West Coast Conference) won their conference opener for only the second time in program history. GU started the 2014 WCC season with a 2-1 win over Saint Mary's in Spokane. In 2011, SMC and the Bulldogs played to a 1-1 draw in Moraga, Calif.

It also marks only the third time in program history that the Bulldogs have won five straight games. The last time was in 2007, when that squad set the program record with seven consecutive victories.

The win snapped a seven-game road conference losing streak for the Zags. GU's last road WCC victory was at San Francisco on Nov. 2, 2014.

After a scoreless first half, Viviano found the back of the net just over a minute into the second stanza. She put in a rebound off of a shot from Callie Best.

In the 67th minute, India Jencks played a ball into the box and Viviano struck it into the net. Viviano's second goal of the game was her sixth of the season. With six goals and five assists, she now has 17 points this season. It was Jencks' second assist of the season, and she now has a point in each of the last seven matches. She leads the WCC with 20 points.

Pacific's Sigrid Aas scored a penalty kick in the 70th minute.

Henriikka Makela made seven saves for Pacific (3-7-2, 0-1-0 WCC), while Isabel Jones had two for the Bulldogs.

Gonzaga outshot Pacific 10-2 in the first half, and finished with a 20-7 advantage. GU placed nine shots on frame.

The Zags are at Saint Mary's Sunday. The Gaels (5-6-0, 1-0-0) beat Portland, 2-1, to open league play Friday. Start time Sunday is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Live video and stats will be available on GoZags.com.
