Women's Soccer Plays To Scoreless Tie at Idaho State

POCATELLO, Idaho. - The Gonzaga University women's soccer team played to a scoreless tie with Idaho State University Friday afternoon. Sophomore keeper Lauren Ames made a season high seven saves to post her fourth shutout of the season and the sixth of her career for the Bulldogs (5-6-1). Playing its second consecutive double overtime match after beating Eastern Washington University 2-1 in double overtime last Sunday, Gonzaga was outshot 21-17 by the Bengals (2-7-3) but finished with a 9-7 advantage in shots-on-goal. Bulldog sophomore Ashley Riley led all players with three shots-on-goal in the match. ISU keeper Mary Eves-Williams made nine saves in the match including four in the two overtime sessions. The Bulldogs outshot ISU 7-4 in the extra periods and played most of the overtime sessions in the Bengal zone but the ISU defense held strong to preserve the tie. It is the ninth time in school history that the Zags have played to 0-0 tie and first time since 2006 when Gonzaga and Washington State played to a scoreless draw. Gonzaga closes out its 2008 non-conference slate at Weber State University Sunday 11 a.m. PST before opening West Coast Conference play against #3 ranked University of Portland at the Gonzaga Soccer Field Oct. 12.
