SPOKANE, Wash. - Sophomore forward Christine Sinclair scored three goals Sunday afternoon to help the No. 3-ranked University of Portland Pilots (11-2-1) notch their first West Coast Conference victory as they defeated the Gonzaga University Bulldogs 4-1 Sunday afternoon at Martin Field.

Sunday's match marked the first WCC contest for both teams as much of the conference opened play over the weekend.

The Bulldogs managed to keep the Pilots scoreless for the first 45 minutes as Portland unleashed 16 first-half shots.

Sinclair took control early in the second half as she scored in the first 20 seconds as she dribbled through traffic to shot from 5-yards into the left side of the net. Lindsey Huie replicated a similar goal at 49:11 on an assist from Wanda Rozwadowska as she took a short shot to the left side.

Gonzaga forward Annie Hawkins answered in the 78th minute with her sixth goal of the season when she one-timed a pass from Jessie Torres from 15-yards out into the center of the net.

Sinclair continued to lead the Pilots as she tallied two late half goals to secure the win. Kristen Moore and Erin Misaki collected the assists. Sinclair led the Pilots in shots with 13 while Lindsey Huie collected five.

The Pilots out-shot the Bulldogs 28-5 as Gonzaga goalkeeper Ashley Haugen picked up 14 saves and Portland goalkeeper Lauren Arase had two.

Gonzaga returns to WCC action Friday as they host the Pepperdine Waves at 1 p.m. at Martin Field.
