Women's Soccer Falls on Senior Night

SPOKANE, Wash. -- San Diego grabbed a 2-0 road win over Gonzaga women's soccer at Luger Field Saturday. The Zags finished their 2017 home slate with a 7-3-1 record in Spokane.
The Toreros (8-9, 6-1 West Coast Conference) capitalized on a pair of corner kicks in the victory. Kelsi Dantu scored twice on headers off of corner kicks. Tara Meier had both assists on the corners.
Dantu found the back of the net three minutes into the match. Her sixth goal of the season came in the 70th minute on a header at the near post. She nearly had a hat trick, hitting the crossbar on a header off of another corner in the 60th minute.
Gonzaga's (10-7-1, 2-6-0 WCC) Savanah Van Citters struck the crossbar on a free kick from deep in the 27th minute. The Zags outshot USD, 23-7. GU placed 10 shots on frame, while San Diego had four on goal. Four of India Jencks' five shots were on goal for the Bulldogs.
The Zags took a season-high 11 corner kicks. Entering the game, Gonzaga needed five shots to break the program record for most shots in a single season. The Bulldogs have taken 298 shots this season.
Gonzaga ends its regular season schedule at Loyola Marymount (7-6-4, 2-4-1) next Saturday. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m., with live coverage on GoZags.com.
