SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Gonzaga University suffered a 5-1 setback to the University of San Diego in a West Coast Conference match Friday night. Emma Dolcetti recorded her third goal of the season for the Bulldogs (8-10-0, 2-4 WCC).

San Diego (11-5-2, 5-1 WCC) used four first half goals and a 19-4 shot advantage to earn the conference victory.

The Bulldogs allowed USD goals in the second and third minutes to fall behind early 2-0. The Toreros later added goals in the 20th and 41st minutes to take a 4-0 advantage into the half. Gonzaga was able to put together a run midway through the half as Sheridan Jones fired on net but USD keeper Courtney Parsons was there for the save.

In the second half the Zags opened the period by producing some tough defense and holding off a couple of USD attacks early in the period as GU keeper Amy Danielson made a pair of saves. The Toreros did go on to add their fifth and final score of the night midway through the period.

In the 85th minute Sarah Rhodes sent a corner kick into the box that Ashley Riley received and fired on net. Her shot was turned away but Dolcetti was there for the follow to put the Zags on the board.

The Toreros had a pair of keepers each make one save while Danielson finished with seven saves.


 

 

Next up for the Bulldogs is a 1 p.m. matchup at UC Irvine Sunday to close out their road schedule. Gonzaga will then close out the regular season next Saturday at 1 p.m. hosting Santa Clara University.
