Zags End Season with 2-1 Setback at LMU

LOS ANGELES -- The Gonzaga women's soccer team's season came to an end with a 2-1 loss at Loyola Marymount Saturday.

The Lions (9-6-4, 4-4-1 West Coast Conference) finished their regular season going unbeaten in their last four matches.

Loyola Marymount's Jill Farley scored her first goal of the season in the 27th minute. She struck from deep on a shot that went over the Zag keeper. Less than 10 minutes later, Melissa Lewis brought in a pass from Maddie Medved for her fifth goal of the season. Lewis headed in a free kick from Medved in the 35th minute.

In the 59th minute, GU's Callie Best scored her sixth goal of the season on a penalty kick. The Zags outshot LMU, 14-13, after the Lions had a 9-4 advantage in shots in the first half. Loyola Marymount finished with eight shots on goal, compared to the Bulldogs' seven.

Charlee Pruitt made six saves in the LMU net. Isabel Jones and Drew Williams split time for Gonzaga, and both made three saves each.

This season, the Zags (10-8-1, 2-7-0 WCC) reached the 10-win plateau for the first time since 2007. It was only the sixth time in program history that GU reached double-digit wins a season. The Bulldogs had the best start to a season in program history this year, and broke several team records.

Gonzaga scored the most goals (39), made the most assists (30), totaled the most points (108) and took the most shots (312) in a single season in program history in 2017.

Sophia Viviano finished third in program history with 21 points this season, while India Jencks is sixth with 20 points. Viviano and Madeline Gotta had five assists this season, ranking eighth in program history.
