Thompson Joins Gonzaga WSOC

Thompson has been a staple in the net for the Mountain Maple High School and Utah Storm teams. At Maple Mountain, she has been a four-year letterwinner, and team captain during her senior season. After leading the team to the state title, Thompson was named the Class 5A State MVP by the Deseret News following her senior year. She was also tabbed First Team All-State by the Salt Lake Tribune and to the All-Tribune Team in 2017. Thompson was an All-State honorable mention selection after her sophomore and junior seasons.
Thompson has been on the school’s honor roll for four years with a 3.8 GPA. The daughter of Chad and Camille Thompson would like would like to be a Biochemistry major. Her mother Camille played soccer at Utah Valley University.
Thompson has helped her club team, the Utah Storm, find success. She was named the Utah Storm Player of the Year in 2016-17. She was tabbed the Vegas Cup Player of the Tournament in 2016, after recording a complete shutout. Thompson led the Utah Storm to a second place finish at the Regional President’s Cup. She was the regional ODP starting goalkeeper in 2016, and was a member of the state’s ODP team from 2014 to 2017.
“I chose Gonzaga because of the community's willingness to serve,” Thompson said. “The coaching staff is amazing and was a huge part of my decision. The academic success from Gonzaga is one of the top in the nation. Gonzaga has high standards for their student athletes and students.”
“Kayla is a very athletic goalkeeper who has great range,” Watkins said. “She has a great work ethic and a high ceiling.”
