SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Gonzaga women's soccer team welcomed the signing of Alaysia Lane, Zags' head coach Chris Watkins recently announced.
"We are excited to have Alaysia join our team," Watkins said. "She has great experience scoring goals and playing at a high level at Rutgers."
Forward | Plymouth, Minn. | Shattuck-St. Mary’s HS | Rutgers University
Lane will enroll in classes at Gonzaga and be eligible for this upcoming season. She will have three years of eligibility remaining.
At Rutgers, Lane started in six of the 17 matches she appeared in during her freshman season in 2017. She scored three goals and recorded an assist. The Plymouth, Minn. native, took 15 shots, placing seven on goal. She played 647 minutes last season, including a season-high of 74 against Connecticut.
Lane, a 5-3 forward, scored the game winner in RU’s 1-0 shutout of Michigan in the regular season finale, helping the Scarlet Knights secure a home match in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals. She was named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week for her performance against Michigan. She recorded her first career assist in a 7-0 shutout of Mount St. Mary’s. Lane registered Rutgers’ first goal of the season in her first collegiate appearance with a start in the season-opening, 3-0 win over Loyola Marymount.
In high school, Lane played at Shattuck-St Mary’s. Her team won its first Minnesota State Cup in program history in 2016, with Lane playing a major role in the team’s success. She scored the game-tying and insurance goal in the State Cup final. During her sophomore year, she scored 29 goals and notched 16 assists. But, she bested that mark as a junior with 42 goals and 19 assists.
“I chose Gonzaga because it is a place where I can grow and learn as a student-athlete, in a supportive environment,” Lane said. “I get a chance to play soccer at a high level with a hard-working team, as well as majoring in something I want to pursue.”
Lane boasts a 3.6 GPA and would like to major in biology at Gonzaga.
